
FREEDIVE SAFETY COURSE
Michigan Spearfishing Association will be providing a class on Freediving Safety and Training. This course will be taught by Ed Martin from Killshot Spearguns on February 22nd and 23rd. One class per day. Class will be held at the Anchor Bay Acquatic Center in New Baltimore, MI. This will serve as a great way to start training for the coming spring season and learn the techniques that will push your dives to new depths.
Freediving Safety Course break down:
Cost -$200 for class and registration fee to help cover the cost of the pool
Timing – Approx. 7 hours (2hr class, 3hr pool, 2hr classroom)
Course focuses on safely training in a pool (confined water) environment. Static apnea, dynamic apnea, and other breath-hold training techniques will be discussed and commonly used.
Minimum requirements for attendance:
• Age 15+
• Must have their own personal freediving equipment (mask, snorkel, fins, wetsuit, towel)
• Must be able to swim (across the pool unassisted)
• Maximum Number of Students (in pool) – 8
• Maximum Number of Students in Classroom - 8
Course Curriculum:
2 hours classroom
• Orientation and rules of the road
• Proper breathing workshop
• Discussion of Static and Dynamic apnea techniques and associated safety requirements
3 hours pool exercises
• Static Apnea safety and rescue techniques
• Dynamic Apnea safety and rescue techniques
• Deep Water safety and rescue techniques
2 hours classroom
• Safety recap
• Boat and Spearfishing Safety
Saturday Class - Starts at 12:30pm and concludes at 7:30pm. Front desk staff will direct you to the conference room.
Sunday Class - Start time 8:30am and concludes at 3:30pm. Front desk staff will direct you to conference room.
Please bring all your equipment to the conference room in order to move into the pool facility in a timely manner. Please bring food and water for yourself as well.
